A board year at EOS is very educational challenging and above all great fun! This week Lisette will tell a little more about her experience as treasurer of the board.
One of the things I like the most is accompanying all treasurers of the committees. This means you are broadly aware of what is going on in each committee! Each board member also coordinates a number of committees and you know all the ins and outs of these. For the treasurer, two committees to coordinate have already been determined: the Borrel Committee is responsible for the borrels in FoyEOS, and the contact with and accountability to the Audit Committee is also your responsibility.
As treasurer of the board, you are responsible for all money flows within the association. At the beginning of the academic year you make a budget, in consultation with the other board members, and you present a realization every GMM. You are responsible for the accountancy, signing contracts and you are responsible for the book and extract sales. You pay invoices, make invoices and keep the Network Officer (or board member External Affairs) informed about the invoices that have (not) been paid (yet).
What I often hear when it comes to the Treasurer position is the fear of numbers. A board year is about learning a lot and it can therefore be very interesting to have a position that is outside your comfort zone. In addition, the KCC is there for all your questions and advice and you can always contact your predecessor! A board year is busy but a lot of fun; with a close-knit group of people, a year to remember!
